In between sobs, the school teacher from Dhanbad blames a Delhi doctor, Dr Supriyo Mukherjee, for almost killing her son.

"Indranil was being treated at CMC Vellore and was under dialysis. A distant relative, Ishani Banerjee who is a resident of Kalkaji, told us about the doctor and fixed an appointment. Dr Mukherjee claimed he was working with AIIMS Hospital. He assured us my son would recover soon. He stopped Indranil's dialysis and prescribed medicines which worsened his health," said Sadhukhan.

Sadhukhan claims she paid Dr Supriyo more Rs 1 lakh for the treatment, alleging she later discovered he was not from AIIMS. "The doctor resided at Prem Nagar. I brought Indranil to him in July. His visiting card and prescription declared he was a gynecologist working with AIIMS Hospital. But he claimed he had successfully treated 11 patients with kidney problems. He gave Indranil three injections a day for two months. I trusted him," said Sadhukhan. MiD DAY has copies of prescriptions allegedly written by Dr Mukherjee for Indranil.
From bad to worse
On October 10, when Indranil's condition turned for the worse, his parents rushed him to the Ganga Ram Hospital where he was admitted for eight days. "Due to Dr Mukherjee's medication, Indranil had become very weak. He resembled a skeleton and could barely walk. His skin started peeling off and he could not even identify us," said Sadhukhan.

After eight days, when Indranil's condition improved he was discharged and his parents took him back to Dhanbad. They are back in town for his kidney transplant.
Doctors at Ganga Ram say Indranil is better now but would need transplant immediately. "His condition is stable now but both his kidneys have failed. Indranil was worse when he was brought to us. He has to go for kidney transplant," said Dr AK Bhalla of Ganga Ram Hospital, who is treating the patient.
Chasing the doc
Once they returned to Delhi, the Sadhukhan family started enquiring about Dr Mukherjee and found there was no doctor at AIIMS by his name. They lodged a written complaint with the Hari Nagar police station, accusing the doctor of fraud.
Cops said they have received the complaint but are waiting for the Sadhukhan family to submit the original prescriptions so that they could match the doctor's handwriting. "We have received the written complaint and we are waiting for the original document so that we can match his handwriting. This is a serious offence and we will take action once we have all the documents," said a senior police official from the Hari Nagar police station.
Countering the doctor's claims that he was innocent, the patient's mother said, "Why would we plant a case against a doctor that too at the cost of my son's life? We have already spent so much and will bear all expenses to ensure that he is cured. My son wanted to become a management professional but he had to discontinue his final year BBA classes," said the mother.
